Lee County Sheriff back in uniform
LEE COUNTY, IA. -- Just 25 days after being suspended, Lee County Sheriff Buck Jones is back in uniform.
About a month ago, we told you the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy suspended him for nine months following a paperwork error.
On Tuesday, the enforcement academy board lifted the suspension pending the outcome of Jones' appeal with the District Court of Lee County.
The council originally suspended Sheriff Jones because he signed an application from his son to become a reserve deputy.
That application didn't disclose an earlier conviction, even though it was noted in the criminal history records that were inside the document.
The sheriff says the issue was essentially a paperwork mistake by his son, and neither he nor the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy caught it.
Because of the suspension, Sheriff Jones could not wear a uniform, carry a gun or make an arrest for nine months, but remained with the Sheriff's Department in an administrative role.
