Projects could be considered for funding
MACOMB, IL -- The city of Macomb is ready to take advantage of the federal stimulus package.
In order to receive any funding, projects had to be "shovel ready," which means they would be ready for construction within 90 to 120 days.
Macomb has several projects ready, totaling about $12.7 million.
Those projects are in the areas of water plant upgrades, street projects, public transportation and environmental projects.
Without any money, some of the water plant upgrades would still begin because the city has been approved for loans.
But that would put some of the cost on residents in the form of higher water rates.
KHQA spoke with Mayor Mick Wisslead today.
We asked him how any money the city received would be dispersed.
"I think that what they're going to do is they're going to decide what areas where they could say 'okay, we'll give you X amount of dollars for water projects, X amount of dollars for street projects', the same thing down the list," said Wisslead. "I think that's the way it's going to go. But we never know until we get the check."
Mayor Wisslead said he would be extremely pleased if the city received one-third of that money.
