Says overall, city's economy better off than others
Quincy, IL- Given the events that hit Quincy in 2008, Mayor John Spring says Quincy is a town that can adapt, and keep moving forward. In Friday's 'State of the City' address Mayor Spring reflected on the summer flooding and the safe return of Quincy's National Guard unit. But he mostly focused on the economy...the success of Amtrak, and improvements made to the city's infrastructure and development.
Overall, Mayor Spring told KHQA Quincy has fared well, despite some slowdown and job loss. He says the city's financial picture could be much worse.
"Well, I think Quincy by nature is conservative. It really has nothing to with your politics. By nature we tend to be more conservative, more cautious. When we budgeted for this year, we anticipated some slowdowns in the economy," said Mayor Spring.
Spring told KHQA the city plans to make improvements to its neighborhoods. It's also looking at ways to expand Highway 57, near the Gardner Denver plant to I-172.
