CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Sen. Roland Burris says a newly released affidavit about his contact with aides to ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich was voluntary and not the result of contact from federal agents investigating the former governor.
He says any suggestion otherwise is "absolutely, positively not true."
Burris also insists the Feb. 4 affidavit doesn't go back on previous sworn statements to lawmakers who recommended Blagojevich's impeachment.
Burris spoke to reporters briefly Monday.
He didn't take questions.
Over the weekend, the senator released the affidavit filed with the Illinois House impeachment committee.
The affidavit contradicts Burris statements to the committee regarding his contact with Blagojevich aides about the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama.
The discrepancy could mean he perjured himself.
