Seniors can get free assistance while filing their taxes
(Quincy, IL) - The Quincy Senior Center is offering some assistance during the stressful weeks leading up to Income Tax Day.
The West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging is giving volunteer income tax assistance to seniors and disabled citizens.
Agency Director Todd Shackelford says more seniors are getting part time jobs.
And since their tax returns are normally smaller than most people's, Shackelford says they shouldn't have to pay for a full tax return.
We asked Shackelford why this free service is so important.
"Well, it's very important because a lot of times the tax return is what they may get back in filing," said Shackelford, "and it's a lot less than what it costs to prepare the tax with a paid prepare. So it's a great benefit."
Shackelford also told KHQA the agency helps seniors figure out if they are eligible for any other benefits.
To set up an appointment for assistance with your taxes you can call the Quincy Senior Center toll free at (800) 252-9027.
Here are a list of the dates the free tax assistance will be available:
February 16-19, March 16-19 and 30-31, April 1-2 and 6-9.
