Flowers may also be affected by cold snap

How much will we end up paying for a week-long freeze that damaged California's citrus crop?
We talked to a couple of local supermarkets about their citrus prices.
Both Hy-Vee and County Market produce managers said they expect citrus prices to go up a few cents on individual oranges and $1 or $2 on eight-pound bags.
But they won't know for sure how prices will be affected until they buy their next shipments.
And did you know that West Coast cold snap also wiped out a lot of fresh cut flowers?
Not a good thing to happen just ahead of Valentine's Day.
If you're looking to get your sweetheart a dozen roses for Valentine's Day, you might be worried about California freezes affecting flower prices.
Mike Ericson said that's not the case. Ericson, Holtschlag Florist owner, said since he gets fresh cut flowers from around the world, he doesn't anticipate a price hike anytime soon.
"I get a lot of flowers out of South America, where I get the majority of my flowers for Valentine's Day, so I don't anticipate any problems there," said Ericson.
He said prices are traditionally higher this time of year anyway.
And the flowers he will sell this Valentine's Day were pre-ordered weeks ago.
"At this point I have things pre-booked. I haven't heard of any problems but time will tell," Ericson said.
So go ahead and keep your plans to purchase that perfect bouquet for the one you love.
