Conditions cause 19 crashes in early Wednesday
We received some complaints about how slick Quincy streets were Wednesday morning.
Quincy police responded to 19 crashes between 6-9 a.m.
Some people were wondering why the pavement didn't seem to be cleared or salted after a light snowfall the night before.
We talked to Mike Beebe, the director of Quincy Central Services. He told us that each storm has to be tackled differently.
Beebe said Tuesday night he felt they had enough chemical on the pavement to sustain the temperatures since there was running water in the streets.
He said if things had started freezing overnight, the police department would have called him at home.
"Obviously at night we were OK but when traffic got out at 5 in the morning it seemed like the whole city turned to black ice in an instant. We were out there but we could not catch up fast enough," Beebe said.
Beebe said Quincy Central Services has plenty of salt right now, but it all depends on how many more storms we get this winter.
