Quincy, Ill.- The Quincy school board is preparing to announce its latest round of cuts in the coming month.
Financial projections for next year show the district is $2.6 million in the red.
Superintendent Lonny Lemon says after last year's huge cuts, there's little fat left to cut throughout the school district.
Now he's meeting with school administrators to find $2 million to shave off of next year's budget.
Are you looking at the possible loss of teachers and other staff?
Lemon said, "There is no way personnel won't be affected. Almost 80 percent of the budget is personnel and salaries. That is typical for all schools. So that is very difficult. So we're trying to minimize the impact as much as possible but $2 million is a big number. It will be hard not to touch personnel and I'm sure we'll have to."
Last month, the district's business manager told us these cuts could increase classroom sizes.
KHQA talked with some local teachers who also say they're concerned with how these cuts will affect students' education.
