Art Institute statues, Fiberglas and cold don't mix
CHICAGO (AP) - Lions with helmets of Bears, oh my.
Today an attempt to place giant Chicago Bears helmets on the lion statues outside the Art Institute of Chicago had to be called off.
Art Institute spokesman Chai Lee says when workers went to put a helmet on one of the lions a piece of the helmet broke off.
Lee says he isn't exactly sure what happened. But he says the helmets are made of Fiberglas and it appears that the extreme cold played a role in breaking the helmet.
Lee says the helmets' makers are going back to their workshop to do something to make the helmets a bit bigger. He says they'll be back tomorrow to try again.
