Increased violence in Mexico could cause problems
The US Department of State recently issued a travel alert for people traveling to Mexico.
Because of this, WIU is urging any students, staff and faculty traveling to Mexico for spring break to exercise caution.
Vice President of Student Services Garry Johnson says the warning was sent out because of increased violence in areas of Mexico.
He says students and other visitors usually stay close to the resorts, but could run into problems when they get further away from those areas.
The best advice Johnson could give is to just use common sense to keep yourself safe.
"These are certainly unsettling times and we want to make sure that everybody's safe," said Johnson, "and that they make good decisions and choices. So yeah we're concernced about all our students but the main focus right now has been on Mexico just because of all the violence that has broken up along the border."
