JESUP, IOWA (AP) -- An evacuation continues in the eastern Iowa town Jesup after several rail cars hauling ethanol went off the tracks in downtown.
Residents of 14 homes near the Canadian National Railway tracks were told to leave as a precaution.
Police Chief Rick Deitrick says three cars went of the tracks and several others were tipping. The derailment happened at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Deitrick says railroad officials arrived overnight, and were uprighting the cars Monday morning. He says one of the cars developed a small leak, but it was repaired.
No injuries are reported. Deitrick says the evacuation would continue until the danger was over.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation, but Deitrick says heavy rain may have washed out part of the track.
