All 5 gates set in Tuesday, March 10th.
(Hannibal, Mo.) The Mississippi River reached 17 feet in Hannibal Tuesday morning, which is one foot over the flood stage.
That is why the city decided to set in all five of its flood gates this morning.
Marion County Emergency Management Superintedent John Hark said he is hoping the crest will hit on Thursday, March 12th and begin to see the level drop after that.
Hark told KHQA he knows this flood most likely will not be a major flood like last years, but it never hurts to be ready.
"We're always going to error, if there is an error, on the side of safety," said Hark. "But we do know the tributaries north of the river, South Fabius, North Fabius, Middle Fabius, their all out of their banks so we still have alot of water coming this way."
The Mississippi River is expected to crest around 21-point-eight feet in Hannibal on Thursday March 12th.
