SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois legislators are making another effort at raising the interstate speed limit for semi-trailer trucks to 65 mph.

The battle to raise the speed limit for semi-trailer trucks has raged n Springfield for several years without success.

Three times, lawmakers approved raising the speed limit for semis from 55 mph to 65 mph. Gov. Rod Blagojevich vetoed it each time. Democratic Sen. John Sullivan of Rushville is sponsoring the latest proposal.

Gov. Pat Quinn's office said Tuesday the governor hasn't taken a position on the idea.

Those who want trucks to legally travel at 65 mph argue it's safer for them to be moving more with the flow of traffic. But opponents say faster-moving rigs are only more dangerous.

Others point out some truck drivers already break speed limits.
