New strategies for efficiency become priority

Tight budgets are causing problems for police departments around the area. So the Quincy Police Department has come up with some new procedures to save time and manpower.

One of those ideas is a new procedure for handling abandoned bicycles. To save time the department is chaining the bikes to city utility poles.

The chains are marked with Quincy Police tags. Then once a day a van will go around the city and pick them up.

Chief Copley says coming up with time-saving ideas like this is one of his priorities. Copley says about 50 percent of the department's time is used on service-oriented calls.
