Fundraising bolstered by generous estate gift
HANNIBAL, MO -- The United Way of the Mark Twain Area celebrated some exciting news at its annual Awards Banquet.
It topped its 2006 goal of $555,000 by more than $7,000.
Chairman Barbara Broughton says this year's campaign focused on all volunteers reaching out into their community and caring for others.
Broughton said, "All of this wouldn't be possible without their help. They give us endless hours of volunteerism, of working on committees and just reaching out in our five-county area and without them our work would not be as easy."
The United Way of the Mark twain Area also made another exciting announcement. The late Loren Fohrman of Lewis County left his estate--topping $200,000--to the United Way. That legacy will live on with the creation of the Loren D. Fohrman Venture Grant Program, which will provide money to area organizations for years to come.
