DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A spokesman for the Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustee for an embattled kosher slaughterhouse in northeast Iowa says an auction of the company will move forward on Monday.
Gary Lewi says the auction of Agriprocessors Inc. in Postville will be closed to media. He says there are multiple bidders for the company.
Agriprocessors filed for bankruptcy after an immigration raid in May when nearly 400 people, most from Mexico and Guatemala, were arrested. Nearly 100 federal counts were filed against the company and its managers following the raid.
Production was shut down for a time but some lines have restarted. Before the raid, Agriprocessors employed about 1,000 people, or nearly half of Postville's population.
