OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Crews with the National Weather Service will be surveying storm damage in parts of Nebraska and Iowa on Tuesday to determine whether tornadoes touched down.
Barbara Mayes, a meteorologist in the weather service's Valley, Neb., office, says it appears tornadoes touched down in western Cass County, Neb., near Eagle, and just across the state line in Harrison County, Iowa. She says crews will head to those areas in the morning.
A tornado in Missouri Valley struck a house on Monday night, causing major damage, but no one was home at the time.
Officials also blamed the tornado for a train derailment that sent 54 empty Union Pacific grain cars off the tracks west of Missouri Valley.
