HANNIBAL, MO -- Work will begin this spring to resurface approximately 30 miles of highway in Marion, Monroe and Ralls counties. These resurfacing projects are part of the more than 110 miles of minor roads in northeast Missouri that will receive treatment to improve their conditions as a direct result of funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded the project to Chester Bross Construction Co., Inc. of Hannibal, Mo., for $1,597,771.09.
Route W in Hannibal will be resurfaced from Route 61 to the north entrance of the Huck Finn Shopping Center in Hannibal. Three roads near Mark Twain Lake will also be resurfaced: 19 miles of Route J from Route 36 east of Monroe City to Route 154 near Perry; about 4 ½ miles of Route EE from Route J to Route 19 near Perry; and Route W from Route 24 to Route J near Monroe City. The work on Route EE is scheduled to begin April 13.
Traffic will be handled on the existing pavement during the resurfacing operations, but will be restricted to one lane. Details about the project will be released to local media prior to construction beginning. The public is urged to use caution during construction. Work is expected to begin in April and be completed by December 2009.
