WAPELLO, Iowa (AP) - State environmental officials say a broken sewer line in Wapello (WAHP'-uh-lo) caused an unknown amount of untreated wastewater to flow into the Iowa River in the southeast Iowa city.

The Department of Natural Resources says wastewater flowed into the river for about two hours Tuesday. A pump station was shut down while repairs to the main pipe were made.

The agency doesn't anticipate any enforcement action. The city will test water samples.
