Hannibal Evangelical Free Church new home for school

HANNIBAL, MO. -- Seven years ago the last class of students walked out of the St. Thomas Seminary in Hannibal. The building now is home to the Hannibal Evangelical Free Church.  And it will become a school once again soon.  KHQA's Jarod Wells went to the campus to find out more about the plans for a new Christian-based private school there.

School supplies, students and teachers soon will fill the classrooms at the Hannibal Evangelical Free Church off of Levering Avenueat once again. The church is starting the Hannibal Christian Academy.

"Having a Bible-based Christian school in Hannibal is obviously something that has been done before," said Pastor of Hannibal Evangelical Free Church Jim Woychuck, "the idea is not original with this church or with this group of churches."

Pastor Jim Woychuck and the church's school board hope to be ready for students August 24th. The school will offer classes to sixth, seventh and eighth graders. A full curriculum will be offered, but students will have the options of taking only one class or a full schedule.

"We want it to be a reflection of the lordship of Christ," said Woychuck. "Now that does not mean this is the type of school where you have to follow Jesus Christ, but especially as you get up into the middle school grades, there are academic subjects and environmental issues where we believe there is a place for an educational institution that integrates the Bible into academia."

The budget of the school can fund 100 course enrollments, which would be 20 full time students. Tuition will cost anywhere from $100 to $250 per 3 hour class, depending on the course.

You can get more information about the school and enrollment by calling the church at (573) 221-7889.
