WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Iowa attorneys critical of the handling of last year's immigration raid in Postville oppose Sen. Tom Harkin's nominee for U.S. District Attorney for the northern district of Iowa.

The attorneys say Harkin should investigate Stephanie Rose's role in the raid, which they say raised ethical and legal questions. Des Moines immigration attorney Jim Benzoni says Rose "sold her soul" to get the nomination, but several public defenders who represented clients charged in the raid say Rose is hard working and conscientious. Rose says that those who have criticized her role in the raid were not directly involved in the aftermath of the raid, and says she expects questions on the matter if she faces a confirmation hearing.
