Hannibal, MO--  The Hannibal Police Department is ready to answer the call to residents' concerns after a recent survey.

In January, H.P.D. mailed out a community "quality of life" survey along with Hannibal residents' Board of Public Works bill. H.P.D. received more than 1,000 surveys.  We found out *how* officers interpreted those surveys in this KHQA FactFinder Report.

Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis told us that the top five concerns were traffic violations, such as speeding and careless driving.  Large dogs on the loose, suspicious subjects walking around the neighborhood, disruptive juveniles, and illegal drug activity is also a concern.

Davis told us residents didn't feel safe walking in their neighborhoods, particularly on the Southside and Hope Street area.  Davis says he and his staff are ready to address these issues.

"One thing is we're going to increase our presence in those areas, especially the times that were indicated...If we focus our resources during those times, we'll have the most effect on the problem," Davis said.

The public also requested more police presence at Riverview Park.  According to the survey, residents felt unsafe due to the remoteness and lack of lighting. Hannibal Police Chief Lyndell Davis says patrols will be increased during the spring and summer months, that includes bike patrols.
