New Calhoun County sheriff hopes to unravel old murder
HARDIN, IL (AP) -- The new sheriff in Calhoun County in west-central Illinois is dusting off the case file of the county's only unsolved murder.
Bill Heffington took office in December. He's hoping to solve the 1993 shotgun killing of 27-year-old Stuart "Tony" Craigmiles.
Craigmiles, who had been a guard at the Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mount Sterling, was found dead in his Kampsville home.
Heffington says he hopes people who know something about the slaying will do the right thing and come forward for the sake of Craigmiles' survivors.
