Mentors play vital role in child's success
Quincy, IL-- Imagine a world where all children succeed.Quincy Public School officials and community members believe it's possible with the help of mentors. Community members who've taken the time to mentor area children were honored Friday. They were also served lunch by Quincy school board members.
Mentors received 5 and 10 year service award for their dedication. A Special memorial presentation was also made in honor of Jeanne Griffith, who volunteered for more than a decade. School officials say mentoring is a vital part of a child's success.
"We know that having a caring adult in a child's life and particularly some children who have had struggles either academic struggles or social emotional struggles, these mentors make a world of difference. Someone checking in with them and caring, it motivates the children, their grades are better, their attendance is better. These mentors are really our unsung heros," Quincy Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Trish Viniard says.
