Moves forward while others hold back
Quincy, IL-- With many cities holding back on construction projects due to the economy, Quincy is moving forward.
It has quite the list of projects for summer construction. Work crews are finishing intersection safety improvements at 3rd and York near the Civic Center. There's also re-surfacing projects going on around town.
Crews will also finish pavement markings on the streets of Maine Street from 4th to10th streets. Other projects include adding more bike racks downtown and looking for Lincoln exhibits uptown.
City officials told us that adding more amenities and making improvements will bring more people to the area, boosting the economy.
"We've been hit a little bit with job loss just like everyone else, but Quincy is one of those communities that's fairly insulated compared to other parts of the country. We've been very fortunate," said Executive Director for the Historic Quincy Business District Travis Brown.
Mayor John Spring says improvements like these are important to the growth of the community.
Mayor John Spring says," These are vitally important. Anytime you make infrastructure improvements, anytime you make enhancement improvements to your community it brings people into your district. It also adds positive attitude for people."
These projects are also expected to bring about 250 jobs to the area. Most projects will start in a few weeks, and will finish throughout the summer.
