DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver has appointed his chief of staff to head the Department of Human Services. Charles Krogmeier will become director of the state's largest agency following the Senate's rejection of Gene Gessow to head the department.
Gessow lost his confirmation vote 32-18 with all Senate Republicans opposing him.
Krogmeier has a long history in state government and likely won't face such opposition when he goes before the Senate next year.
His appointment was announced Thursday.
