PALMYRA, MO. -- The following news release was received from the Palmyra R-1 Board of Education:

The regular meeting of the Palmyra R-1 Board of Education was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the office of the Board of Education at 1723 S. Main, Palmyra, Mo.

The principals gave their monthly report on happenings in their respective buildings.

The principals also gave reports on summer school.  Summer school will run from June 1, 2009 through June 26, 2009.

Eric Churchwell reported to the board on the sumemr maintenance needs throughout the district.  Some of the projects include gym floor refinishing at the high school ad middle school, stage repair and refinishing at the middle school, repairs to the football bleachers, drain tile repair at the football field, security fencing at the high school, tennis court repair at the high school, exterior wall repair at Parents as Teachers, and window repair in the middle school gym.

In old business, the board reviewed the admission prices of the Clarence Cannon Conference schools and set the admission prices for athletic events for the 2009-2010 school year.  Prices for 2009-2010 are:

  • Varsity football, basketball, baseball, softball - Adult $4, Student $2, Family $10
  • Junior Varsity/Middle School football, basketball, softball - Adult $3, Student $2, Family $8
  • Adult season football pass - $15
  • Student season football and basketball pass - $20

In new business ,the board approved the Professinal Development Plan for the 2009-2010 school year.

The board discussed the preliminary budget.  The final budget will be approved at the June board meeting.  Preliminary budget numbers have an operating levy of $3.20, which reflects a rollback of $.55.  These are preliminary numbers and could change depending on the assessed valuation numbers that will be received by the disrict from the county assessor in June.  The actual tax rate will be approved by the board sometime in August.

The board heard from the CTA salary committee.  The committee recommended that the board raise the base salary for teachers to $29,000.

The board adopted the teacher salary schedule with a base salary of $29,000.  The board also adopted the classified salary schedules as presented.

In regular business the board accepted resignations from:

  • Connie Browning - Elementary Principal
  • Mark Loman - Elementary para-professional
  • Melissa Bringer - Parent Educator
  • Mindy Ray - Middle School Softball Coach

The board hired:

Kevin Miles - Middle School Social Studies

Debbie Stratton - Middle School Science

Melissa Ratliff - High School Math

Mindy Ray - Asst. Varsity Softball Coach
