Three people killed in Northeast Missouri
Three people were killed Wednesday night in Northeast Missouri near Kirksville as tornados ripped through the area.
A 47 year old man and 29 year old woman from Kirksville were killed when their mobile home was destroyed by a twister.
The third victim was a 56 year old woman from neighboring Sullivan County.
Her mobile home was also hit.
The devastation didn't stop there.
"It's right next to me," says a storm chaser.
This storm chaser got a little to close to one of the twisters in Adair County Wednesday night.
"There it is, it's dangerous!"
This man just happened to have a good vantage point of one of the tornados from afar.
When all is said and done, at least 150 buildings in Adair county were damaged. At least 10 homes were destroyed, and several people hurt.
"The tornado touched down several time, we have widespread damage around," says Rob Atkinson, a Deputy Chief with the Adair County Sheriff's Department.
Officials confirm two tornados and are haven't ruled out the possibility of a third. One of the tornados was about a half a mile wide and was one the ground for about 8000 feet. In the wake of the twisters, this car dealership was hit hard. So were dozens of homes. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has declared state of emergency. Damage assessment teams will be brought in soon from the State Emergency Management Agency.
At last check, late Thursday afternoon, there were still about a thousand power outages in Adair County according to Ameren's website.
That site also listed all of its customers in Sullivan county were still in the dark.
