15 minutes of exercise can help kids slim down
It may not take a lot a time for kids to slim down--just 15 minutes a day according to a new study. Researchers tagged 5,500 children with motion sensor devices and found those who exercised most were the least likely to be obese and that short burst of intense activity seemed to be the most helpful. The study showed that kids who spent just 15 minutes a day engaged in moderate activity were 50 percent less likely than inactive children to be obese.
Eat all the soy you want, but it is not likely to help you shed pounds. A new study found adding soy-protein-rich foods, while cutting calories, doesn't accelerate weight loss. Overweight women who cut out 500 calories a day while consuming an extra 18 grams of soy-rich food didn't lose any more weight than their peers who didn't add the extra soy.
And if you're climbing into the tanning bed to try and protect yourself from skin damage, you're probably only making matters worse. An international research group concluded the use of sunbeds before age 35 substantially increases the risk of developing melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer. The group is discouraging young adults from using tanning beds and recommending restrictions on the beds for minors.
