While many businesses are cutting back and laying off workers, at least one Tri-State business is booming.
Allied Waste Services of Quincy is experiencing one of its busiest years ever.
Warm weather means more remodeling and roofing projects. But that also means more debris. That's one of the reasons why business is booming for Allied Waste Services of Quincy. In fact, Division Manager Bill Romans says on Monday, his company broke an all-time record for orders of temporary roll off containers like this one.
What's business been like for you?
Romans said, "Temporary business is up 50 percent more than it was last year. Permanent container business has not dropped off. But temporary business has grown year after year."
Romans says his Quincy branch is thriving while those in bigger cities like St. Louis are reporting layoffs. Meanwhile he says there's so much business in Quincy, his crews are working overtime to fill orders. Even management is going out on deliveries these days.
Why do you think that is?
Romans said, "People and the economy. People are staying close to home and doing more things possibly a remodeling project instead of a trip or perhaps to clean out their garage."
Romans says people like convenience. The customer fills the container and the rest is taken care of. That's why Romans says, "There's no business like trash business."
