Pressure to sign contracts a sign of trouble
Representatives from three Quincy pest control companies spoke at the Quincy Senior Center today on how seniors can protect themselves from a pest control scam.
That's an important issue now because of the warm weather. It's the season to have your home treated.
Elder Services Officer Tom Liesen says these types of scams are a problem in the Quincy area.
"They've got these companies trying to come to their doors and telling them they have termites and trying to get them to sign a contract and pressuring them to sign quickly," Liesen said.
"There are termites everywhere and there are chances of homes getting eaten by termites. Just because your neighbor has termites doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have termites," said Gary Allen with Reliance Pest Solutions.
Allen says reputable companies don't go door to door.
He says while termites do damage your homes, your house won't fall down immediately; you have time to decide on a company.
If someone does pressures you into signing a contract, you have three days to change your mind and cancel the contract.
And if you think you've been scammed, contact the police department.
