SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois voters may get a chance to change the state constitution to allow the recall of unpopular governors.
A House committee voted unanimously Thursday to approve a recall proposal negotiated by Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. It now goes to the full House.
If it's approved by the House and Senate, voters would decide next year whether to amend the constitution.
Recall would give the public a chance to remove someone they consider unfit to serve as governor. To do it, they would first have to collect hundreds of thousands of signatures in just five months.
If that happened, then there would be a special election on whether to remove the governor.
