ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Missouri Foundation for Health has launched a campaign to try to reduce the number of smokers in the state.
The group says it's bringing the "Become An Ex" campaign to Missouri. It says the program was developed by the American Legacy Foundation and health experts at the Mayo Clinic.
The foundation says nearly a quarter of the state's adults are smokers and that about 10,000 Missourians die each year from smoking-related illnesses.
The campaign advertising aims to change the way adult smokers think about quitting and to guide them to helpful resources.
One of those resources is the Missouri Tobacco Quitline, which offers free cessations tools and trained quit coaches who help callers develop personalized quit plans.
