Meanwhile upstream, the Quincy Gems kicked off its summer baseball season Thursday.
Team manager Rob Ebbing expects this season to be the best ever.
In fact last year attendance was up for all of the Gems' home games.
Ebbing says many folks are staying close to home these days and are enjoying cheap, family-friendly entertainment at the ballpark.
But perhaps one of the most exciting things for folks on both sides of the river is revival of a rivalry between Quincy and Hannibal, with the addition of the Hannibal Cavemen to the league.
Ebbing said, "We're looking forward to the rivalry between Hannibal and Quincy with our baseball teams. When they come to see us next week we are going to clobber them and ship them back down the river. We're going to have a great season playing them. "
A big Gems highlight this year is the addition of these new stadium seats. That allows fans to be more comfortable in the stands. Several local businesses showed their support by picking up the $30 thousand price tag. Some of those businesses include the Bank of Quincy, Tower of Pizza, Gem City Pizzaria, The Abbey, Kelly's,
