Bill passes House as area sites close shop
We told you last week about proposed legislation for senior meals sponsored by Illinois State Rep. Jim Watson.
He proposed the meals program would be paid for by a combination of privately owned businesses like nursing homes and restaurants and a public program would handle deliveries.
The bill passed unanimously in the House and has now moved to the Senate.
Watson says the process might take until the end of April, but says he's hopeful the bill will pass in the Senate.
He says once it does pass they'll have to lobby to get funds for the program.
Watson's proposed legislation came just after the announcement that Meals Plus sites would be closed down in western Illinois.
As of April 1, meal sites in Dallas City, LaHarpe and Warsaw, along with the Lampe Hi Rise in Quincy were supposed to shut their doors.
But since April 1 is a Sunday, all four meal sites shut down Friday. More area meal sites are scheduled to close as of April 15.
