CHICAGO (AP) - Prosecutors are investigating any possible contacts between ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his political allies involving admissions at Northern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University.

The Chicago Tribune reported Thursday that the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago is seeking such information.

That comes after the Tribune last month revealed that the University of Illinois admitted politically connected applicants over more qualified students.

Melanie Megara is assistant vice president for public affairs at Northern Illinois, and she confirms that NIU received a subpoena Tuesday seeking all records of admissions-related contacts with Blagojevich and four other men who have been indicted in the federal investigation of corruption within his administration.

A spokesman confirms SIU also received a subpoena.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office declined to comment.
