SPRINGFIELD, IL (AP) -- Hunters applying for firearm permits this deer hunting season can hit the web.

Officials from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources say online applications are available for resident Illinois hunters interested in getting into the first lottery drawing for this fall's firearm and muzzleloader-only permits.

DNR acting director Sam Flood says the online system makes the application process faster.

Applications can be submitted at www.dnr.state.il.us.

The deadline for the first lottery drawing is April 30. After that nonresidents and rejected applicants can apply for the Aug. 14 deadline.

The 2007 Illinois Firearm Deer Season starts Nov. 16.
