CHICAGO (AP) - Health officials say the number of swine flu cases in Illinois has risen to more than 2,800.
There have been 12 deaths related to the virus.
The Illinois Department of Public Health released new numbers Friday.
The rate of new case reports has slowed.
The new tally of 2,875 probable and confirmed cases is about 350 more than the previous week. In contrast, the number had increased by more than 500 cases last week.
Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Kelly Jakubek says the new flu strain is acting differently than seasonal flu.
It's affecting mostly younger people and continuing later in the year.
The state is updating its case numbers once a week.
