COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The former Collinsville basketball coach who led the Kahoks to 747 victories and two Illinois state titles over three decades has died.

Vergil Fletcher was 93 when he died Tuesday night at a hospital after being found unresponsive at the Collinsville nursing home where he'd been living.

Roger Smith of the Madison County coroner's office says Fletcher had several medical issues and died of "the infirmities of old age."

Fletcher led the Kahoks from 1946 to 1978, guiding them to state titles in 1961 and 1965. Collinsville made 14 state tournament appearances under Fletcher.

Fletcher also coached football at Collinsville from 1946 to 1966, amassing a 99-66-11 record.

Arrangements are pending with Herr Funeral Home.
