QUINCY, IL -- It looks like President Pro Tem Bud Niekamp will remain as president for the Quincy School Board.
He presided over his first meetings Thursday evening, which was standing room only in the Baldwin round room.
The meetings were pretty heated as speakers approached the podium to either oppose and support Niekamp.
In fact, there was even quite a bit of shouting at times.
Glenn Bemis gave an emotional address about how and why he resigned.
Public comment took up the bulk of both meetings.
Those who spoke generally asked Niekamp to consider what was best for the children and the community.
Many requested his resignation as president.
Some implored him to get help in operating as president, while just two spoke in his support.
Niekamp made several motions which failed for lack of a second, including his calls for a forensic audit and hiring new legal counsel.
He exercised his right as board president to form two ad hoc committees to look into those two issues.
The board unanimously elected dickerson to be vice president--though not without an attempt by Niekamp to nominate every other board member for the post.
They all declined to be considered.
Niekamp reiterated his intention not to resign multiple times.
