QUINCY, IL -- Rumors are circulating about the future of Great Lakes Airlines at Quincy's Regional Airport.
After hearing talk about the airline company possibly not renewing its contract at Baldwin Field, we called the company and Quincy's mayor for the facts.
Director of Sales and Marketing Monica Taylor hasn't returned out phone calls or e-mail so far.
Mayor John Spring told KHQA the city hasn't received any formal notice from Great Lakes about its intentions.
This is what we do know.
Spring told KHQA Great Lakes must complete its contract, which doesn't expire until November.
The mayor said he has heard from time to time that Great Lakes isn't sure it'll bid on the service again, but nothing has been set in stone.
Regardless of which company provides the service, Mayor Spring says there's definitely a need.
Mayor Spring said, "It's a strong component of building an economic base for your community. I know the eight months we were without air service, it really was a hardship for this community."
Mayor Spring told KHQA the good news is that Great Lakes has improved its on-time performance.
But he says the company has failed to provide a 4th flight and has failed to partner with a major carrier.
He says both were promised in the airline company's contract with Quincy.
