Prefers income tax increase to gov's biz tax plan
QUINCY IL -- Illinois State Representative Jil Tracy visited with businesses and community members Wednesday afternoon about Governor Blagojevich's proposed gross receipts tax. Tracy said the receipts tax has good objectives. But she feels it is not the right approach to solving education and health-care funding issues.
"Well I cannot see a good, positive side to it, except the ideas behind it: to fund education and healthcare,'' said Tracy. "The goals are things that we want to accomplish, but I just do not favor this revenue stream to do it ."
Tracy says she'd rather that House Bill 750 passes, which would provide funding for health care and schools via a 3 percent income tax increase.
