Since electric rates have gone up, communities around the Tri-States are taking a good hard look at alternative energy options.
Pittsfield has used a wind turbine since 2002.
Now the city is creating a renewable energy task force that will look into other renewable fuel options for the city.
Since 2002 Pittsfield has taken advantage of a wind turbine built near the city.
The task force is considering ethanol, bio-diesel and cellulosic ethanol as possible alternative to explore.
The task force would also be an information resource for companies who want to start a renewable energy business in the area.
