A public comment brought up Wednesday night at the Quincy School Board has some people worried about class sizes for this fall.
KHQA spoke with superintendent Lonny Lemon about the that today.
He says there are four or five *hot spots* where class sizes could be high.
Lemon says the district won't have exact numbers for a few weeks because Kindergarten enrollment won't start until August.
Four options were given to the board last night to look over, but a decision may not come for a couple of weeks.
Lemon told KHQA while the district wants to keep class sizes down, having more students in the district is actually a good thing.
"When you get an influx of students, you can afford more staff. If our district enrollment is up significantly over last year, we wouldn't have known that when we made the budget reductions. We think we have 30 more kindergartners district wide. That alone my justify us hiring teachers," says Lemon.
Also at the meeting, the curriculum committee recommended students be allowed to only retake up to two tests per course per semester.
But in order to that, students would have to meet certain requirements including homework.
And specifications for the new bus driver contract were disclosed.
The drivers will get a 2.75% raise in the first two years of a four year deal.
They will get a 3% raise in the final two years.
Health insurance will stay the same.
The beginning salary for a bus driver will be $11.09 an hour, and the top salary will be $20.47.
