Hannibal - If you're looking for love...it may be closer than you might think.Mr. or Miss Right could be waiting in America's Hometown.
The city's anti-smoking group called Breathe Easy Hannibal is hosting 'speed dating' next Friday night at Star Theatre.
It will allow 30 men and 30 women two minutes each to figure out if they are remotely compatible with the person across the table.
Organizers hope participants leave with more than just meeting the love of their life.
Stephanie Thomeczek, Coordinator of Breath Easy Hannibal said, "It is my hope that the adults that come and participate in the speed dating event actually realize the importance of clean indoor air. They're able to have fun in a venue that does not have smoking and have their health protected even while they're enjoying some entertainment."
If you're interested in participating, here's the info you need to know. Speed dating will begin at 8 o'clock, Friday July 31. Doors open to the Star Theatre in Downtown Hannibal around 7p.m. for drinks.
The cost is $15 and all the funds go towards promoting healthy, smoke-free places to go in Hannibal.
Breathe Easy Hannibal will be hosting Speed Dating at the smoke-free Star Theatre in Hannibal, MO, on Friday, July 31, 2009 from 8-10 PM. Join area singles for an evening of networking, fellowship, and fun. Registration is Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Star Theatre 7:30 – 8:00 PM with the event to follow. Cost is $15.00 each (cash or check, please) and is open to all single persons, age 21 and over.
Only 30 minutes of exposure to secondhand smoke can increase the risk of heart attack. Keep your heart safe and let it be open to “Love” in a smoke-free environment. The historic smoke-free Star Theatre features old time appeal with an oak bar, restaurant style kitchen and menu and also an expansive dance floor.
Single ladies will be seated at booths while single men will rotate from booth to booth every two minutes. At the end of the evening staff will collect and evaluate participant’s score cards. After evaluation, participants will then be e-mailed their matches and both parties will be able to decide if further contact is desired.
Coordinator of Breathe Easy Hannibal, Stephanie Thomeczek says, “Two minutes is the proven amount of time for speed dating. People know immediately if there is chemistry or if it is lacking. Breathe Easy Hannibal is excited to host this event for singles in our area and are grateful to the Star Theatre for co-hosting and providing its patrons with a smoke-free venue.”
