DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say a 3-year-old girl was injured when a shotgun in a Polk County sheriff's deputy car on display in a Des Moines park was accidentally fired.

Sheriff spokeswoman Jana Rooker says Ashya Wade, of Des Moines, was outside the driver's side when she was hit Sunday afternoon.

Wade suffered injuries to her chest and an arm. Rooker says the injuries were not life-threatening. Wade was taken to a hospital, where she was in good condition Sunday night.

Authorities say the shotgun was secure in the shotgun rack when it went off.

Rooker says there were children inside the squad car, and witnesses reported a boy running from the driver's side after the shot was fired.

Rooker says the gun was not supposed to have a round in the chamber.
