QUINCY, ILL -- There is good news tonight about the mail sorting center in Quincy.
Illinois senator Dick Durbin says he got a letter from the Postmaster General saying the study to possible close or reduce the capacity of the Quincy center has been cancelled.
Also in the letter, postmaster general Jack Potter told Durbin that no positions would be eliminated at the center.
A couple of months ago, there was concern that once the study was completed, there would be a recommendation that the Quincy operation be closed and that mail would be sent to Springfield to be sorted.
But that concern is wiped away after Durbin received the letter from the U.S. postal service.
