DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver is seeking an agriculture disaster declaration for 23 Iowa counties that sustained crop damage from storms this year.
Culver has asked U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack for the declaration for crop losses from storms between May 15 and July 31.
If granted, the declaration will expand eligibility foradditional USDA assistance.
The counties are Allamakee, Benton, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Clarke, Clay, Clayton, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Howard, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Van Buren, Wapello, Wayne and Winneshiek.
