Fire destroys hotel laundry room
MACOMB, Illinois- A friday night fire at Macomb's Rodeway Inn left two unanswered questions.
Why were the fire alarm and sprinkler systems turned off?
The fire started in this laundry room on the back side of the hotel when a dryer caught on fire.
Crews spent thirty minutes battling the blaze which completely destroyed the laundry room.
Macomb Fire Chief Andy Taylor says the damage would not have been as bad if the sprinkler system was on.
Taylor says there were 7 sprinklers in the room, one right above the dryer.
If the system had been on the fire would have been out by the time crews arrived on scene.
The hotel's systems were inspected once a year.
Both systems were on and working when they were inspected in October.
Since no injuries were reported the owner faces local violations and could be charged and fined for the incident.
