JACKSONVILLE, ILL. (AP) -- One of two people charged in the fatal shooting of a Jacksonville man nearly two years has entered a plea agreement with Morgan County prosecutors.
In court Tuesday, Julius L. Washington, 21, of Springfield pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the slaying of Earl Capone Jackson in exchange for 25 years in prison.
Under the terms of the agreement, Washington was credited with the 224 days he has already served in jail, but he must serve all the sentence before being released on three years' supervised parole.
Washington and another Springfield man, Rafael C. Kennedy, 21, were charged with first-degree murder after the 25-year-old Jackson was shot to death in a car on Sept. 22, 2007.
Kennedy has yet to stand trial.
